Jarrah - also known as Swan River Mahogany

(Scientific name: Eucalyptus Marginata ), is a hardwood timber species native to South Western Australia. It is very heavy, even for a hardwood, with an air-dry density of 820kg per cubed meter. In comparison River Banksia has an air-dry density of 560kg per cubic metre. As well as being used in the construction industry, jarrah, also known as Swan River Mahogany, is used to make beautiful quality furniture.

Heartwood is dark red, while regrowth is pinkish-red. Sapwood is pale yellow.

Texture:

Coarse but even.

Grain:

Slightly interlocked.

2-3 for decay and also 2-3 (about 15 years) for decay plus termites. Termite resistant.

Hardness:

Green 5.7, Dry 8.5
